There is a lot of confusion on the web with the terms Diode, Laser Hair Removal / Reduction and IPL - Please read on to learn more about the options:
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL TM) technology offers a gentle, non-invasive, long-lasting solution to unwanted hair for people with fair skin and dark hair. It is the original form of Laser hair removal, and is best described as 'uncomfortable' HOWEVER - in the beauty industry treatments are always developing and now there is DIODE LASER HAIR REMOVAL - which is practically pain-free - and perfect for customers with all skin tones and all hairs colours - almost too good to be true isnt it?
Be Admired no longer Offers IPL since Diode has taken over the market... so if you book with Be Admired you can rest assured youll be receiving the best treatment available at the best prices available... We have decided to leave the IPL information up so you can read for yourself the differences and why Diode treatment is the right choice for you.
How does IPL & Laser treatment remove hair?
Highly controlled flashes of light are selectively absorbed by hair-filled follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages or destroys the regrowth potential of the follicle. All without damaging the surrounding tissue. Parameters are set to ensure effective hair removal and skin safety. Pigment in hair shaft absorbs the light. The resulting heat damages each follicle. Damaged hairs are eliminated with excellent long-term results. The main differences between IPL and Diode Laser are the wavelengths used. IPL is 640nm and Diode uses 808nm, meaning it reaches deeper and can heat the follicles more effectively.
IPL uses the colour of the hair to carry the charge to the root to destroy it, Diode Lasers reach the root by itself and as most hair follicles are themselves dark, the treatment works for fairer hair that otherwise wouldn't carry the charge in IPL Treatments
How to prepare for treatment?
If you wax, pluck or epilate then please stop straight away. You can shave as normal, or use veet or similar to dissolve the hair - there is NO need to grow your hair. If you have been waxing, plucking, or epilating then it is best to leave 3 weeks between your last wax and the start of your laser treatment, this is because the hair needs to be attached to a root at the time of treatment.
Please DO NOT use sunbeds in the 2 weeks before treatment unless the area you intend to get lasered is either covered up or you have used a strong spf 30+ sunscreen, this is because all lasers can make your skin temporarily more sensitive to the sun and visa versa.
What happens during a treatment?
Your treatment begins by the technician thoroughly explaining the procedure to you, you will be given a consent form to sign, along with medical history forms, and skin analysis, you will need to consent to the treatment and sign to agree you have been informed of known possible side effects and risks (see below). Long hairs must be trimmed away above the skin. You will be asked to wear dark laser glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light.
A patch test can be performed, depending on your health, skin type and sensitivity you may have to wait two weeks after the patch test to begin treatment, if you are deemed safe and suitable you may at your own risk, waiver the patch test and begin treatment straight away.
A cold gel will be spread over the treatment area. The Diode hand piece has a chilled head which touches the gel gliding across your skin as pulses of light begin disabling the unwanted hair. The remaining hair from this hair cycle, falls out over the next week to ten days, most hairs will need a course of treatment between 5 to 12 session, spaced 3 to 6 weeks apart, although generally results are noticeable from the first visit.
It is your responsibility to ensure you are not allergic to any products that may be used as part of the treatment. A free allergy test can be done on request 48 hours (or more) before treatment
*No allergic reactions have ever been reported here, or ever seen by the technician.
What does the treatment feel like?
Each pulse feels like a slight sting or pinch, warmth can be felt under the skin as the follicles destroy. No local anesthesia is required and most people tolerate the treatment well. Some local anesthesia can be used on more sensitive areas if necessary.
Can all hair be treated?
Yes, the unique design offers you customised treatment according to your hair colour, texture and the location of body hair. Any hair with at least some pigment in it can be treated effectively. Diode does not work well on white, grey or very light blonde hair unless there is some pigment in the roots. Because the wavelength reaches deeper levels in the skin the hair follicle can be treated directly and all hair colours can be treated.
Is It safe for all skin types?
Diode is one of the first photoepilation procedure proven to effectively treat unwanted hair on all skin types, however there is a risk of pigmentation from the skin being altered in those with skin types 5 and 6, patch tests for skin types 5 and 6 are therefore compulsory.
Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. Most customers feel only warmth and little heat pricks, and therefore have no skin colour change or side effects of any kind, however some customers may experience some slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site, this typically goes away within hours. Some hair follicles may swell immediately after treatment, and this may flare up on and off upon touch over 1 to 72 hours. On extremely rare occasions, some blistering or bruising may occur, but typically resolves quickly and is almost always associated with extreme sun exposure directly either side of the laser treatment. The skin may also become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure will minimise the risk of complications.
Following treatment, you can generally return to work and resume all regular activities immediately, including swimming and the gym. But no sunbeds and if going on holiday you will need a strong SPF suncream.
